Ask Sarit: Is Timocco suitable for kindergarten kids with CP?

November 13, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

I work at a kindergarten for children with CP. Some are able to stand and are mobile without assistance, but have significant difficulties with motor control, coordination, stability and balance. Is Timocco suitable for their treatment? The difficulties you describe impact the ability of the children to acquire movement patterns, to carry out routine daily activities and their level of social participation. Therefore the use of a virtual reality environment like Timocco can be very helpful for … [Read more...]

How having fun playing Timocco changed the life of this little girl

November 10, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

This week we want to share with you a story about a little girl with CP who barely used her right arm - until her father discovered Timocco. With a combination of clinical sessions and home practice today 7-year old Dror can happily use both her arms and is on her way to a brighter, more independent future. Just watch how much fun she has playing Timocco! It's the type of success story that we love hearing about, and love telling people about. So we thought we'd share the … [Read more...]

Ask Sarit: How To Encourage Home Play Sessions

November 6, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

Question: I’m making plans for my clients to continue practicing at home. At the clinic they play Timocco with ease and enthusiasm; at every session, the children ask to play Timocco. However, it's very hard to get them to play at home even though they have a kit. How can I help them with that? One of the biggest challenges that we, as therapists, can encounter is creating a continuity of treatment; starting in the sessions in the clinic and continuing to the child’s natural environment at home. … [Read more...]

6 year old with CP ‘forgets’ he’s got a weak hand!

July 22, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

I met Ben (alias), a cute 6 year-old with hemiplegic CP, when I joined his weekly physiotherapy session at an early childhood development center. I joined the sessions to guide his therapist on using Timocco in therapy. Ben was highly motivated to play the games and as a result, he used his weaker hand constantly and for longer periods of time. He played, succeeded, had fun and most of all, worked on strengthening his upper extremities and learned to believe in his abilities. … [Read more...]

Becky plays Timocco with her eyes!

June 23, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

Becky is a sweet 11 year-old with severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy.  She loves playing on her computer (as you can tell from the video!).  She also loves swimming, playing with her friends and having sleepovers! In order to use the computer, she uses Tobii – an eye gaze software which allows her to control the computer using only her eyes. In this video, made last year when Becky was 10, you can see Becky using only her eyes to play Timocco! … [Read more...]

Timocco Improves Limb Mobility While Playing and Having Fun

April 28, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

Hen-lee is a student at the “Beit Issie-Shapiro” school in Israel and is a lively and happy child.  As part of her occupational therapy, she started using Timocco, a virtual reality based gaming environment where games are activated by the child’s hand movements which are detected by a camera and then shown on the screen. Hen-Lee has a visual impairment and has difficulties using her upper right extremity in addition to difficulty using her hand in ADL due to hemiplegic CP.  She is highly … [Read more...]

Ask Sarit: What kind of program would you recommend for a 5 year old child with Hemiparesis?

February 13, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

“What kind of program would you recommend for a 5 year old child with Hemiparesis ?”   Some time ago I worked with a child facing similar difficulties and recorded a video of the amazing results - the child is totally motivated to move his weak hand (red ball) and even asks to play the game again! In my experience starting with a representative, simple activity that provides the child with strong and positive feedback, preferably a game he/she can’t fail, produces the best … [Read more...]
