August 11, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

Charlton Park School in Greenwich,  has been using Timocco for some time and is seeing excellent results amongst its pupils. Katie Chapman teaches a class of students with profound and multiple learning difficulties and varying levels of physical impairment at Charlton Park School. She says Timocco has been an excellent addition to her lessons because as well as increasing the students’ fine motor skills and  awareness of cause and effect it is a fun and engaging activity that they can really … [Read more...]

Ask Sarit: How do I know if I’m choosing the right games?

August 7, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

My son was treated by an occupational therapist until recently. He is beginning first grade this coming September and our OT recommended using Timocco to continue practicing at home during summer vacation. I’m afraid I won’t be able to select the correct program for him and he will just play the games like any other computer game. How do you recommend finding the best fit for him? This is a great question and the fact that you’ve asked it tells me that you understand the importance of planning … [Read more...]

From Pencil to Pen: How this 8 yr old mastered handwriting

August 5, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

Jason was referred to an OT due to concerns about his handwriting and sports ability. He was first seen by an OT in August 2013 at the age of 8. At that time he was given a full Occupational Therapy assessment which highlighted that he is good at Maths and Science, has a good level of general knowledge and an extensive vocabulary. Jason enjoys reading and using a computer, plays the piano and is approaching the second grade. Jason's parents said that his handwriting is difficult to read, and … [Read more...]

Ask Sarit: How can I prepare my kiddo for first grade?

August 4, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

Q: My son is starting first grade in September and alongside the excitement there are a few concerns. Until not a long ago he was treated by an occupational therapist due to difficulties with fine motor skills. He improved greatly, but still prefers playing computer games rather than doing workbooks or art books. What can I do with him during what's left of the summer holiday that will help him smoothly integrate into the first grade?   Hi, Starting first grade is an exciting event. Lots … [Read more...]

Ask Sarit: What’s the best way to use Timocco to help a child with Hemiplegia?

July 24, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

We've had quite a lot of response and questions related to last week's post, which showed Ben (an alias), a 6 year old boy with Cerebral Palsy, forgetting all about his hemiplegic hand and freely using it to play Timocco during his therapy session. Here's the video: Back in February of this year, we posted some advice about the best way to get results with a child who has CP and I'd like to re-post it here again, I think it'll answer most of the questions I've gotten. In my experience … [Read more...]

6 year old with CP ‘forgets’ he’s got a weak hand!

July 22, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

I met Ben (alias), a cute 6 year-old with hemiplegic CP, when I joined his weekly physiotherapy session at an early childhood development center. I joined the sessions to guide his therapist on using Timocco in therapy. Ben was highly motivated to play the games and as a result, he used his weaker hand constantly and for longer periods of time. He played, succeeded, had fun and most of all, worked on strengthening his upper extremities and learned to believe in his abilities. … [Read more...]

Ask Sarit: How do I figure out which games are good for which child?

July 17, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

Hi, I started using Timocco not too long ago and it’s great that there are so many games, but how do I know which one to choose and what suits each child? Could you please help me with that? The online platform does indeed offer a wide array of games. When you're starting out, it can seem tricky to match the right game to each specific child. I’ll try to give you some pointers that can help you get started: First, on the main “Games” page, you can find two drop down menus called “Skills” and … [Read more...]

Ori, a 5 year old with Autism plays Timocco to get focused

July 15, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

“I work with Ori, a charming 5 year-old with autism," says a Kindergarten OT when asked about working with Timocco. Ori is considered to be at a moderate to high functioning level and has difficulties with self-regulation and organization. Even when performing activities he is familiar with, he has problems because of these difficulties. Furthermore, Ori doesn’t stay focused for long periods of time and is easily distracted. In the kindergarten, Ori uses communication cards to express his … [Read more...]

Ask Sarit: How do you fine tune range-of-motion settings while playing on a big screen?

July 10, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

"I work at a school for kids with motor difficulties where Timocco is connected to a large screen and I can’t seem to get the range of motion settings just right for each child.  Can you help?"   First, it’s important to understand that the camera and it’s positioning play a key role in tailoring Timocco to the child’s abilities. When a child plays in front of a big screen, there’s a natural tendency to move back so that they can see the whole screen. With a big screen set-up, the camera … [Read more...]

Ask Sarit: What’s the benefit of using Timocco at home?

July 3, 2014 by Eran Arden Leave a Comment

One of the main challenges that therapists face is finding ways for the child to continue practicing  the targeted skills at home. This is a major challenge for the parent as well. Parents have to attend weekly sessions, often instead of work, and the cost is usually very high.  After all that, they then have to find time to help their child practice at home between their daily routines. This becomes more difficult if the child is not cooperative and too often parents don’t manage to keep up … [Read more...]
