Becky is a Timocco and Tobii eye gaze user. Learn about Becky, and how the games and technology have personally influenced her life. As a gift to Timocco, Becky created a thank you note with the use of only her eyes! An exceptional child, making an ideal example of why the Timocco team loves doing what we do, creating a better life for children with a disability.
Becky is a 10 years old girl with severe athetoid cerebral palsy, which affects all of her limbs. She is a wheelchair user and has very limited use of her arms and hands. She attends a local mainstream school 3 days a week, and a special needs school for 2 days a week, where she gets all her therapy. She is very bright and has a great sense of humor.
She has been using a Tobii eye gaze device for 3 years now and it has transformed her life. Since getting the technology, she can now have some independence & control over her environment, as well as having an essential tool to help with her learning – she is learning to speak and read and write and express her preferences, and she can join in with her lessons at school with her mainstream friends. Like any 10-year old, Becky loves playing all sorts of games, and now she is able to play many games independently on her computer. Tobii eye gaze has surely become a vital piece of equipment in Becky’s life, not only for her education, but also for her entertainment and enjoyment.
Becky has found the Timocco games very easy to use and she has enjoyed trying them all out. She has been able to play them all independently with her Tobii PCEye and I have not needed to give much help at all. We like the new way the icons “fill up” when gazing at them to select them. The new layout is very simple and easy to use, with the advanced settings still available but less apparent to the eye gaze user. The early levels of the games are a little too easy for an experienced eye gaze user like Becky (but great for beginners!), but it is good to see that the higher levels still give her a good challenge to successfully complete the games. She definitely experiences a satisfying feeling of achievement when she successfully completes a level! I would certainly recommend the Timocco suite of games to other young eye gaze users, as there is a wide range of games for practicing and developing good eye control as well as being fun & enjoyable!
